Donida Farm Equestrian Center
By Jodi McMaster, R6 Youth Coordinator
Region 6 held the USDF Jr/YR clinic series, March 26 and 27 at Donida Farms in Auburn Washington. Region 6 would like to thank the sponsors of the clinic, The Dressage Foundation and the United States Equestrian Federation who without their support these clinics would not be possible. Well-known and highly respected instructor and current President of the United States Dressage Federation, George Williams, coached our eight selected riders.
Those eight riders were selected through the USDF selection committee from a large pool of Region 6 applicants. The committee chose the following riders:
Heather Decent of Gig Harbor, Washingtone
Nadine Orriss of Bellevue, Washington
Sarah Lane of Kirkland, Washington
Patience O’Neal of Maple Valle,y Washington
McKenzie Milburn of Bothell, Washington
Madeline Kurz of Missoula, Montana
Jori Dupell of Salem, Oregon
Stevie Gaudreau of Clinton, Montana
The weekend weather cooperated for the riders and attendees, with a little rain, some sunshine and moderate to cool temperatures. The clinic format provided an intimate setting for all attendees to be able to watch the coaching sessions, ask questions throughout the day, spend a theory/training session over lunch with George and wrap up Saturday night with a Region 6 sponsored spaghetti dinner and an Easter Egg hunt.
Many of the attendees commented on how wonderful it was to be able to spend so much time with George, see his teaching style and get some of their questions answered.
The riders had each day a 45-60 minute ride session with George coaching them and each rider commented on how much they enjoyed the sessions. Patience quoted to George ”Thank you so much Coach Williams for the amazing coaching!! I am super excited to practice and improve in all the new exercises we learned! Super pumped for the upcoming show season with HuW!”
Region 6 will host another JYR clinic in 2017.
